About
Why this artist matters now
Frances M. Goodwin was an American sculptor whose work emerged from rigorous training under two of the country's most prominent academic sculptors, Lorado Taft and Daniel Chester French. Born in Newcastle, Indiana in 1855, she studied at the Indiana Art Association in Indianapolis before pursuing formal instruction at the Chicago Art Institute and the Art Students League in New York. Her practice reflected the neoclassical and figurative traditions central to late nineteenth-century American sculpture.
