Eileen Quinlan works in medium and large format photography, positioning herself within the still-life tradition while operating in territory that recalls the light experiments of Moholy-Nagy and the formal abstraction of James Welling. Her photographs engage the materiality of the photographic process itself, using camera format as a deliberate compositional and perceptual tool. The still-life designation she claims for her practice grounds an otherwise rigorously abstract body of work in a specific art-historical lineage.
