Eero Aarnio is a Finnish designer and sculptor whose plastic furniture and sculptural objects defined postwar modernism in the 1960s and beyond. Working primarily in fiberglass and molded plastics, he created biomorphic forms that balanced industrial production with organic, almost anthropomorphic shapes. His work bridged functional design and fine art, establishing a distinctive vocabulary of curved, often spherical volumes that became iconic of the space-age aesthetic. Based in Helsinki, Aarnio continued to develop sculptural installations and functional objects that merged engineering innovation with sculptural ambition.
