Giuseppe Chiari was an Italian artist and composer who worked across performance, sound, and visual media, employing chance operations and strategies of dematerialization from the 1960s onward. His practice bridged music and visual art, treating both as equally rigorous forms of experimental inquiry. Active in postwar avant-garde circles, Chiari anticipated later conceptual and sound-based practices by treating the artist's gesture and decision-making process as the primary material rather than the finished object.
