Tadao Ando is a Japanese architect working in reinforced concrete to create spaces organized around material tactility, geometric precision, and the sculptural movement of natural light. His buildings, from private residences to cultural institutions, prioritize clean lines, spatial restraint, and carefully controlled views over ornament or applied decoration. The concrete surfaces themselves, their texture, weathering, and play against shadow, function as the primary expressive medium. Light and shadow become structural elements rather than incidental effects.
