About

Why this artist matters now

Arnold Eagle was an American photographer and filmmaker whose work documented urban life and social conditions in the mid-twentieth century. Active from the 1930s onward, he combined documentary photography with experimental film, capturing the texture of American cities and working communities. Eagle's practice bridged journalism and artistic inquiry, employing both still and moving image to record vernacular architecture, street culture, and labor. His postwar output refined these interests through a more formally considered approach to composition and sequence.
