About
Why this artist matters now
Robert Jacobsen was a Danish sculptor and painter whose work helped define modernist abstraction in Northern Europe during the mid-twentieth century. Working primarily in metal and stone, Jacobsen developed a formal language of geometric and organic forms that bridged constructivist and expressionist vocabularies. His influence on Danish art and international sculpture practice was substantial enough that the Danish Robert Award was established in his honor.
