Gego created geometric and kinetic sculptures she described as 'drawings without paper', constructing open linear forms from metal that emphasized space and movement over solid mass. Born in Germany and based in Venezuela from the 1940s onward, she developed a distinctive visual language that merged constructivist principles with a focus on the immaterial, the void and light between structural elements. Her works from the 1960s and 1970s established her as a pivotal figure in Latin American abstraction, working across sculpture, drawing, and installations that invited spatial inhabitation rather than passive viewing.
