Angus Fairhurst worked across installation, photography, and video, and is placed among the Young British Artists who defined British contemporary art in the 1990s. His practice ranged between deadpan humor and existential unease, often using appropriation, repetition, and absurdist logic to destabilize familiar forms and expectations. He was a close peer of Damien Hirst and Sarah Lucas, with whom he shared both studio networks and exhibition contexts. Fairhurst died in 2008 at the age of 41.
