Bridget Riley is a British painter whose large-scale canvases deploy precise geometric repetition and optical contrast to produce sensations of movement, vibration, and spatial instability directly on the retina. Working primarily in acrylic on canvas, she has moved from stark black-and-white compositions to sustained investigations of colour interaction, building rhythmic sequences of stripes, curves, and lozenges that activate perception as a physical event. Her work is held in major institutional collections internationally, including Tate. She lives and works between London, Cornwall, and the Vaucluse in France.
